Howling Prairie Artist Collaboration & Highlight: 🎨Sally Bookman🎨

Howling Prairie is honored to feature a selection of high quality lithographic prints of Sally Bookman’s original artwork in our marketplace. These prints were gifted to us by Sally in an effort to reach a new audience of art lovers. We have saved to nicest prints to be resold as is and used the damaged and/or blemished copies to create custom upcycled pieces as a way to celebrate the original artist while reimagining what would have at one time been seen as waste.

Sally Bookman’s artistic journey began in London, where she grew up and studied oil painting as a young student at St. Martin’s School of Art and Design. After moving to the United States in the late 1980s, she started experimenting with water-based media and fell in love with the vibrancy and movement it brought to her work. Her paintings often reflect the beauty of her California surroundings as well as the places she’s discovered while traveling through Europe. More recently, she has been exploring acrylics, enjoying the bold richness and energy they add to her color palette.
Over the years, Sally’s work has been shown throughout the western U.S. in major watercolor exhibitions, earning her many awards along the way. One of her paintings was even purchased by the World Trade Center in New Orleans. Her art has been featured on the cover of a national magazine, published in the calendar Celebration of American Women Artists, and included in the book Best of Watercolors. She has also shared her creativity with a wider audience through licensed products like notecards, umbrellas, and tote bags.
Since making Santa Cruz her home in 1974, Sally has been deeply involved in the local arts community. Her colorful posters have become a familiar part of annual events such as the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, the Capitola Art & Wine Festival, the Capitola Begonia Festival, and the Wharf-to-Wharf Race. Beyond her posters and paintings, she has also published three books: Sand Between Your Toes, a collection of watercolor sketches of Santa Cruz; a book of sketches capturing the magic of Venice, Italy; and a photo journal of her journey along Spain’s Camino de Santiago pilgrimage.
